Non-slim PS3 units malfunctioning [Update]
Reports are coming in of an error in old PS3 units which is wrecking
several sorts of functionality. Some players are unable to connect to
the Playstation Network, the Trophy system has been compromised and
other titles are unable to load at all.
The PS3 units are logging an 8001050F error when attempting to connect
to PSN and then reverting the unit’s system date to 1st January 2000.
Apparently attempts to reset the date manually do nothing to fix the
problem. This is not confined to PS3s that are connected to the Net.
Some users have stated that their offline units are also experiencing
similar symptoms. Debug units used by the press are also subject to
these problems. Data corruption is also turning up in some cases.

| Warning: Do not attempt to combine these two items if you are afflicted by this error |
Sony has not yet commented on how the problem can be fixed or avoided but they did acknowledge that they are looking into the issue.
Some comment is going around the Web that the old PS3 units have a
coding error causing them to believe that 2010 is a leap year which is
resulting in the crashes. This has not been confirmed from any official
source however.
[Update] Sony has this to say: "We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units
other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year.
Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both
GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that
users are able to use their PS3 normally."
You can check more on any issues that may be unresolved here. Looks like it was a leap year bug after all.

Asus Crosshair IV Formula review
The Asus Crosshair IV Formula is the first motherboard to arrive at the
PCF Ranch based on AMD’s new 890FX chipset. The 890FX is the flagship
of AMD’s 8-series chipsets and like its brethren lacks support for the
AM2+ socket/processors as well as DDR2 memory. AMD has given the 890FX
chipset a total of 38 PCI-E lanes which are split between four PCI-E
x16 slots which will have 8 lanes each, a single PCI-E x4 slot and two
PCI-E x1 slots.
